Continuing its drive against drug menace J&K Police in Jammu district has achieved a major success when it thwarted the plot of the drug smugglers of smuggling huge consignment of Poppy Straw from Kashmir to other parts of the country.
Police arrested drug peddler at Suketar Nakka and recovered huge quantity of poppy straw.
As per police officials a police Nakka led by SDPO Nagrota Mohan lal Sharma along with SHO Jhajjar kotli Rajesh Khajuria and PSI Rajat Magotra while on routine checking at Suketar Nakka signalled the driver of the truck bearing registration No. PB35N/9367 to stop his truck few meters before the Naka point but the driver tried to escape from the spot. After a hot chase police managed to arrest the driver of the vehicle.
The driver of the truck was identified as Sanjeev Kumar s/o Tara Singh r/o Tajpur , jallandhar, Punjab.
On checking, 1430 kgs of poppy straw was recovered which was hidden in apple boxes in the the truck.
In relation to this, FIR no.95/2020 u/s 8/15/25NDPS Act has been registered at PS Jhajjar kotli and further investigation taken up.
Police has requested Community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” police officials added.
